Having solar panels does not mean forgetting about them. To ensure their performance and durability, good maintenance is essential. There are three main types:

Preventive maintenance

Objective: to anticipate problems to avoid failures and maximize efficiency.

Preventive maintenance serves to reduce the risk of costly breakdowns, extend the service life of the installation and ensure that your system always operates efficiently. In addition, regular check-ups can prevent warranty cancellations due to lack of maintenance.

Includes:

  • Solar panel cleaning (yearly or more frequently if dirty)
  • Revision of wiring, connections and structures
  • Checking of fastenings, anchorages and rusting
  • Verification of inverters, regulators, protections and seals
  • Battery check (water level, sulfation, connections)

Recommended frequency: at least once a year, especially in spring or autumn.

Corrective maintenance

Objective: to solve breakdowns or incidents once they have already occurred.

This type of maintenance is essential to restore the operation of the installation when a problem is detected. It makes it possible to diagnose faults, replace damaged components and prevent a minor breakdown from becoming a serious problem. It also ensures that the installation returns to 100% operation as soon as possible.

Includes:

  • Repair or replacement of defective components
  • Correction of electrical faults
  • Diagnosis after production downtime or visible faults

When it is performed: only when a fault is detected. It must be attended within 48h (isolated installations) or in a maximum of 10-15 calendar days.

Predictive maintenance

Objective: to anticipate possible future failures by monitoring and analyzing data.

Predictive maintenance makes it possible to identify possible incidents in advance thanks to the constant analysis of system behavior. It uses technologies such as sensors, artificial intelligence or thermography to detect anomalies and schedule interventions before a real failure occurs, thus optimizing costs and avoiding unexpected shutdowns.

Includes:

  • Continuous performance monitoring
  • Automatic alerts for production downtime
  • Data analysis, thermography or other tools

Frequency: continuous or programmed according to the monitoring system

Frequently asked questions about photovoltaic maintenance type

How often should I do preventive maintenance?

At least once a year. More in areas with dust, acid rain or saltpeter.

Can I do the review myself?

Basic parts only. It is recommended that a qualified technician do it.

What happens if I don’t do maintenance?

Risk of efficiency losses, undetected failures and voiding of warranties.

How much does a maintenance plan cost?
