Initial situation: high costs and dependence on diesel oil

The Carns Banyoles facilities, dedicated to the meat and food processing industry, have a surface area of 1,500 m² and a high demand for domestic hot water (DHW) for cleaning and processes, as well as air conditioning in offices and handling areas.

Until 2023, the company used oil-fired boilers as its main source of energy, which resulted in an annual cost of €18,000 and a considerable environmental impact.

The challenge was clear: to find a more efficient, sustainable energy system with lower maintenance costs.

The study: industrial aerothermal energy as an alternative to diesel oil

After a detailed analysis of consumption and thermal needs, a high-capacity industrial air-water aerothermal system was designed, capable of simultaneously meeting the needs of the plant:

  • ACS for cleaning and production processes.
  • Air conditioning of offices and work areas, ensuring stable comfort for personnel.

In addition, large-capacity storage tanks were dimensioned to ensure the continuous availability of hot water at times of peak demand, which is essential in the food industry.

Installation: power and reliability in 8 days

In a little more than a week, the installation was executed with the following elements:

  • Carrier 40 kW industrial aerothermal system, designed for high energy consumption applications.
  • 3 DHW accumulators of 500 liters, capable of guaranteeing a stable supply all day long.
  • Ducted air conditioning system in offices and administrative areas, improving working comfort.
  • Progressive removal of the old oil-fired boilers, reducing the space occupied in the technical room.

Project data:

  • Duration of installation: 8 days
  • Total investment: 56,000 €.
  • Industrial subsidy applied: 15,000 €.

Real results: savings and sustainability for the company

After the first year of operation, the results have been outstanding:

  • 70% reduction in energy costs, from €18,000 to €5,400/year.
  • Lower maintenance compared to oil-fired boilers, which also reduces operating costs.
  • Reduction of 22 tons of CO₂/year, improving the company’s carbon footprint.
  • Greater temperature stability in the handling areas, favoring both production and personnel working conditions.

Additional benefits

  • Return on investment in less than 3 years, thanks to the energy savings and the subsidy received.
  • Improved corporate image and brand reputation, aligned with sustainability criteria.
  • Adaptation to energy efficiency regulations and policies in the agri-food sector.
  • Increased safety by eliminating the use of fossil fuels in the facilities.

Real testimony

“We have improved working comfort and drastically reduced costs. Aerothermics has been a key investment for our competitiveness.”
– Jordi Soler, manager of Carns Banyoles
